Democracy – a reversibel Progress

Excerpt from my book “One World! – Why the rise and fall of Great Powers musst come to an end” published in German but not yet available in English.

Whereas democracies assume that everyone is fallible, in totalitarian regimes the fundamental assumption is that the ruling party or the supreme leader is always right. Harari

What defines a system as ‘democratic’ is only that its centre doesn’t have unlimited authority and that the system possesses robust mechanisms to correct the centre’s mistakes. Harari

The sciences of nature are fundamentally accessible to all humans. Knowledge is not inherited; it must be acquired through individual effort. In this regard, science and enlightenment were inherently democratic from the beginning. However, democracy as a political form of governance does not necessarily arise from the demands of enlightenment. If knowledge and skills are to replace privileges, we may well argue that the leadership of the state should be in no other hands than those of educated experts. Given this premise, it is by no means surprising that leading figures of the European Enlightenment, such as Montesquieu, Locke, Voltaire, Hume, Rousseau, or Kant, widely differed as to their opinions on this matter. For instance Rousseau: his “volonté générale” was never more than an intellectual construct, only to be found in the real world when the masses are incited by demagogues. And let’s not forget: more than two thousand years earlier, none other than Plato had expressed the opinion that the governance of a state should be in the hands of the knowledgeable —  the philosophers as he called them. In doing so, he was inspired by Sparta, a military dictatorship.

The Sciences (of Nature) can only be true if their Premises are wrong

Science fulfills an existential purpose. It serves to help us find our way by recognizing regularity – and hence predictability – in the events surrounding us. The need for such regularity and predictability dominates us to such a degree that we even invent it when we cannot discern it within the things themselves. People in earlier times believed that spirits and gods caused volcanoes to erupt, and droughts or diseases to occur, or that sacrifices and prayers could persuade them to avert such evils. That is, they invented a fictious causality being unable to recognize true causes. The objectively existing order of nature was understood only to the extent that was essential for the survival of the species: hunting animals or growing plants required a careful understanding of existing natural laws. Only since the Enlightenment und subsequent Industrial Revolution did humanity move beyond this elementary stage, but then this happened at a very rapid pace. Science is now capable of artificially creating new life forms in the laboratory and fundamentally altering existing ones with the help of genetic manipulation. Human voyages to distant planets, which were previously only conjured up in fairy tales and myths, have turned into a real possibilities.

Blaming Germanists

Around the beginning of the last century, in 1909, when German science could still boast a world-class reputation, the great American William James expressed himself in a rather unflattering way about the German professor in a lecture titled „A Pluralistic Universe“:

“In Germany the forms are so professionalized that anybody who has gained a teaching chair and written a book, however distorted and eccentric, has the legal right to figure forever in the history of the subject like a fly in amber. All later comers have the duty of quoting him and measuring their opinions with his opinion. Such are the rules of the professorial game – they think and write from each other and for each other and at each other exclusively” (my emphasis).

Germanistenschelte

“In Germany the forms are so professionalized that anybody who has gained a teaching chair and written a book, however distorted and eccentric, has the legal right to figure forever in the history of the subject like a fly in amber. All later comers have the duty of quoting him and measuring their opinions with his opinion. One! World – Critique of Populist Irrationality

As human beings, we strive for self-determination – freedom is the word that sums up this aspiration. Uniformity, blending into the crowd, indistinguishability, dependence on others – these are the terms that describe the opposite of personal freedom and independence. Anyone who wants to make us all the same is met with fundamental outrage; they want to violate our basic human rights.

The Excursion to Kawabata

A fine mist hovers over the water, its vapours occasionally blurring the outlines of the mountains. Yet it is the heads that dominate the foreground, bobbing in the warm — sometimes even scalding — mountain lake of Kawabata, which the locals call an Onsen, a hot spring. But the water is of no concern to us, nor are the jagged peaks encircling it, which the effusive travel brochure simply labels „enchanting.“ No, what captivates our attention are the disembodied heads protruding above the steaming surface of the lake, the spirit hovering over the waters. Seven heads — true giants of their era, the greatest minds to grace the species that then inhabited the globe.

The Candidate

It seems a matter of urgent concern to devote particular attention to the notion of rapturous quivering and its pernicious effects, for while at first glance it is immediately comprehensible, its innermost essence remains profoundly enigmatic. Everyone knows what is meant by rapture. Some might simply call it delight. Even the most downtrodden soul experiences moments when the self is suspended in a state of fleeting ecstasy — precisely that of rapture or delight. Yet such moments need not necessarily be accompanied by a quiver — but when they are, as demonstrably occurs in theMotus extatico-narcissicus trumpiensis, we may well be witnessing a phenomenon of world-historical significance. This is why at the present age no politically minded individual can ignore the spectacle of ecstatic quivering, least of all the scientific community, which has already engaged with it in its characteristically systematic manner, bestowing upon us the aforementioned technical term.

Traps for men and mosquitos

I confess, I initially found Gesine K.—that now infamous figure, celebrated by some and reviled by others—rather agreeable, at least in terms of her undeniably striking physical allure. After all, she possesses all the requisite qualities to exert a magnetic pull upon men that notoriously susceptible breed, so easily swayed by superficial charms. Her bosom is of an expansive, alluring proportion; her hair, a radiant platinum blonde, announces her presence from afar; and her bright, ringing laughter—though admittedly tinged with mockery—poses a formidable challenge to any red-blooded representative of our tragically vulnerable, if not downright feeble, sex.
